On to the final slopes that run down to the railway track today at Harbury Spoilbank north. Another sites grassland management done 🙂 @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social
Looking across and down the slope of the grassland to the hedge on the right which is just before the train track. Several volunteers can be seen taking and cutting the grasslands. A steeper selection of the bank sloping to the left into some scrub. A south facing bank.

We had a great turn out of volunteers on this Tuesdays work party at Harbury Spoilbank North! Thanks to Mike pre-mowing a section on Monday the rakers could crack on while the rest started cutting the dips & bumps!

Yesterday the Practical work party team was back at the Little Haven. The paths around the ponds were cut & raked, the orchard ride tided & hedge work carried out. Also wildflower seeds sown ready for next years butterflies. 🦋

Halloween is for the goths and moths 📣

So we're kicking off our spooky countdown with the aptly-named Feathered Gothic (Tholera decimalis). A common moth, well distributed throughout most of Britain, but very local further north.

We were hard at work finishing the banks at Ettington cutting today. I always seem to forget how long & high they go! 😆 Views are across the site from the roundabout end. #volunteer #conservation @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social
View from top of bank along road verges , volunteers brush cutting & raking. We do both sides of the road. Volunteers seen in distance in banks. Having a 2 min pause from raking. You usually take downhill but then have to take the cuttings back to the top compost piles.

A warm mizzly night produced 35/13 in trap - Green-brindled Cresent was new for me. Also my 2nd+3rd Merveille du Jour whilst 5 November Moth agg were NFY. Also Yellow-line Quaker + Blairs Shoulder-knot of note

Latest report shows more bad news for butterflies 🦋 Several species on the ‘at risk’ list are found in Warwickshire - Small Skipper & Essex Skipper. The main threat is habitat loss so anything you can do in your own space can make a difference 🙏

🚨 The latest European Red List assessment has revealed 65 butterflies are now classed as 'at risk', several of which are species found in the UK.

Urgent action is needed to reverse the declining population of butterflies.

You might see the wonderful work we have done for the Small Blue if you click on the links below. Even though the project ran 2009-12 weeks are still actively managing those sites & working hard at ensuring the butterfly continues to thrive in Warwickshire 😀🦋
