Are you more of a Night Owl? Prefer to do a spot of garden watching in the glow of the Moon 🌙 Then you need to create a Moon Meadow #WildSpace for our night time pollinators! 😀 #moths #teammoth @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Small Skipper & Essex Skipper both prefer open places with long grass, like unimproved rough grassland, downs, roadside verges, field edges & woodland glades. So leaving some areas of long grass in your garden would be supporting this species. 🦋

Our Practical Conservation volunteers are at Ettington Cutting this week cutting and raking the grassland banks. We started management of this site in 2016 & it’s great to see how much it has improved since then.

Always worth checking around your moth trap. Some moths like to chill on the outside 😆 This pale tussock being one of them. What’s your best out-of-moth trap find?

This plant is beneficial for orange tip + green-veined white which are easily attracted to this plant in your garden or local green space.
Either buy some seeds or if you can wait a couple of months it will be easily collectable from your local plants. Then follow the instructions on the guide

A simple but effective technique that everyone can do to help butterflies.
On our website, in the newsletter section we have written a photographic guide for planting garlic mustard. butterfly-conservation.org/.../magazine....

It's been a double skipper week! Both Grizzled & Dingy skippers have been recorded.
These sun loving butterflies are 2 of our key species in Warwickshire, working with and on behalf of landowners to improve the fortunes of these butterflies

The winch was once used to move bricks down to the canal from the brick kilns. Then transported across the Midland via the canal networks. It's important to look after our human and natural heritage at these sites 🥰

It's not just butterflies + moths that benefit from the practical work parties efforts. This historical winch was uncovered whilst the team was carrying out grassland management at Fenny Compton Tunnels.

What will be the next butterfly species added to the Warwickshire 2025 year list? Could it be Green hairstreak, Grizzled skipper or Small copper? Species which are on the wing further south
Record all your sightings to i-record and get your name on the 2025 list!

Sun-loving caterpillars ☀️

Scarlet tiger moth caterpillars can be found during the day. Green alkanet and comfrey plants are a particular favoured plant for these striking black and yellow caterpillars.

Let us know if you've seen one!
