Awww black fluffy belly parade 🖤 I miss my big boy so much, but he had a good long life and lived to almost 18. Gone more than 4 years now, but his fuzzy belly is still a happy warm memory. 🥰

Well, crap. No surprise but this is a pretty dire picture right here...

So very excited to come home to this little beauty 😍 Brought a nepenthes home to give this ping-hybrid some tropical-company this winter while all its temperate buddies go hibernate. 😴 (Pinguicula ehlersiae x ?)

I love the tiny novel life you discover in a garden 🥰 The crab spider and its meal came inside accidentally when I picked one of the golden Rembrandt dahlias, so I put it back outside (snapped a picture on the mullein before moving it back to its preferred flowers.)
A small light yellow and black striped crab spider grips a yellow and black striped native bee that is five times its size. The bee's wings iridescence and veins are visible in the bright sunlight. They are perched on a small, fuzzy closed green bud of a large flower spire. Some of the flowers are open, but faded or detached from the base of the stalk and are a medium yellow of a fading mullein plant going to seed. A large dahlia flower with light yellow petals outside and peach center, with rain or dewdrops on its lower petals. A second similar bloom is in the background, slightly out of focus.

TIL about a new native pollinator I have never seen before in the garden - the Great Golden Digger Wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus)! 🤩 Although they look pretty terrifying and they're a good 1.5-2 cm long, they're solitary pollinator wasps that prey on grasshoppers and other insects. Super neat to meet. 🥰

Absolutely. We call her our manager - at 10 pm on the button (if not sooner!) she starts up the stairs toward the bedroom, scolding us to follow as she goes. If we don't come soon enough, she will come back and get us. 21 years with a cat gives them a long time to train you! 😅😼
