A Canadian publisher has called out the United States for using the image of a children's book character to brag about murdering unarmed people in international waters.

Mark Carney managed to trade a pipeline that will never get built for meaningful progress on industrial carbon pricing and electricity interties — both of which will get more wind and solar built.

Jeez, that’s a shame…🍁
The Dodgers are 9-1 this postseason because their starters have been great 9 out of ten times. They also got shelled by the Phillies in that one game they lost when Yamamoto didn’t have it.

They mostly win, but their losses are fucking ugly due to their lack of bullpen. #analysis

This is always the risk of putting too many eggs in one basket. But it worked very well for us so long as a reasonable, rational, and fair government existed south of the border. Trump is the opposite of these things. But we will emerge stronger, better, and more robust than we ever were before.
Carney: But this decades-long process of an ever-closer economic relationship with the United States is now over. And as a consequence, many of our former strengths as a country—more particularly, our economic strengths based on close ties to America—have now become our vulnerabilities… #cdnpoli

No mention at all of the fact that Trump doesn't have the legal authority to do this, that plans haven't even been reviewed (because the office is closed for the government shutdown), that the size and cost estimates keep changing, etc., etc.

(🧵) I’m going to say some things that may cost me followers. That’s only appropriate, given that what I say in this thread is about exactly that: how utterly meaningless everything is right now besides saving America—because without rule of law and democracy, nothing we dream of will ever come true.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

Need to read something smart about literature? This essay about books in translation by the Italian writer Vincenzo Latronico will feed your hunger. Ideas from outside the anglosphere are redefining what literature is, and broadening the frame of which books are considered universal.
