I think TV has always been like that. Back in 1982, "Police Squad!" was cancelled because the network execs said that viewers actually had to WATCH the series to get the jokes.

Still believed that Studios let them happen? Remove Youtube "Kids" out of existent (and also restricted their website under, at least age of 13), and see what's left.

The industry has been through this back in the 80's when toy driven shows were the norm or even in the 70's when every show was trying to ape off Scooby-Doo. It will take time for job security and demand for original projects to come back. We just don't know what will be the thing to kick it off.
