It comes from the idea that the olden times were boring. Like when the Dark Ages comes up and Woolie is absolutely baffled that people had any time to bath, have fun, or do anything outside of subsistence living 23 hours a day
Fantasy is really stretching it when there are legitimate real people that lived during the 1400s of essentially modern day Czechia depicted in the game.
