Interesting point. One I hadn't really thought about but there's truth to it.
IMO this observation is both true and crucial to grapple with bc it transcends political divisions. How ppl respond might differ depending on affiliation (the ascendent right wing blames minorities and "fixes" the broken system with fascism), but the underlying anti-establishmentarianism is cultural
I'd point to something deeper I think this thread is touching on: the (US) popular imagination has lost the concept that a system or society can be good, worth representing or defending, the underdog narrative that individuals are good and systems are bad or corrupt runs very deep in US storytelling
