These blown glass bowls were frequently decorated with horizontal opaque white trails, with some applied vertically on the ribs. Colors could be saturated, below right (mid-1st c. CE), or used as a light tint, below left (1st-3rd qtr of 1st c. CE). 🏺 2/ #ancientbluesky

Translucent pale streaky reddish amethyst rippenschale bowl with trails in opaque white. Roman, 1st-3rd quarter of 1st century CE. Said to be from Piedmont, north Italy. Met Museum, New York, (17.194.277) Translucent deep purple rippenschale ribbed glass drinking bowl, with a slightly flaring rim. Cream colored horizontal trails spiral around the body. Bowls of this type that are found in the west are usually made in rich, deep colors with opaque white trail decoration. In the east, they preferred lighter translucent colors with no opaque decorations. Roman, mid-1st c. CE. Met Museum, New York (91.1.1268)

Caught some seconds of sunlight to take a quick picture of this gold ore set!! 🥰
A unfinished set of 7 dice on a hand. They are clear with metallic golden resin pieces. Black resin flows through and around those pieces, making it look like gold ore still stuck in a dark cave wall.

GEOMETRIC FLOOR IN OPUS SECTILE, C4 CE. ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA OF THE OSPEDALE DI S. GIOVANNI The discovery of two statue bases naming L. Licinius Sura give us the identity of the owner of a vast domus on the Caelian hill near the property of the Plautii Laterani, of a similar date, which gave the toponym "Lateran" to the cathedral of Rome. Sura was a general under the emperor Tiberius and an ancestor of the Licinius Sura who was a close friend (lover?) of the early C2 emperor Trajan. The latter Licinius Sura had a different house on the slope of the Aventine. The Lateran domus of the Licinii Surae had extensive gardens making use of the huge amount of aqueduct water that crossed the area, and a gigantic cistern remains to show part of the property's hydraulic work. This floor in serpentino, porphyry, giallo antico, and other marbles was found in a room adjoining the garden.
