I'm reminded today after watching the Trump bullying tactics on Zelenskyy that some people use the word respect to denote equal care and consideration for each other, and others use it to denote a demand to obey their perceived authority and power over another.

We know how Trump defines it.

DoorDash, the food delivery app, has agreed to pay nearly $17 million to settle allegations that it improperly used customer tips to offset the wages of its New York delivery workers instead of allowing them to keep the tips in addition to their guaranteed earnings, AG Letitia James announced.

How is it that a company orders its staff to do something illegal and yet the company never send to be charged?
Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models.

In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

I did not have failed startup on my USA death bingo card
wired.com WIRED @wired.com · Feb 7
It feels like no one should have to say this, and yet we are in a situation where it needs to be said, very loudly and clearly, before it’s too late to do anything about it: The United States is not a startup. If you run it like one, it will break.
