Some Norwegian creature. Furry | 27 | Student.

Very interested in cities and whatnot.
Inside it's a ghost of the 90s, with some fun old lighting above, and a great crowd management layout for when up to two boats dock.

There are even physical signs saying which boat route goes where, and two separate waiting areas.

Bus terminals of Ålesund are eh, but I really dig the express boat terminal.

Back in the 90s someone figured, why have the waiting room for the boat on land? When we have so much room in the sea. So this floating terminal was born. Going up and down with the tide to be level with docking boats.

Here too, the old terminal is within eyesight of the new one. It has much less traffic noise, and all the busses that are out of duty park here to charge before returning to duty.

But hey, by not going by it, some routes save a minute or two. So the efficency makes up for the loss of comfort.

In the other direction, there is also a new street terminal replacing a bus terminal. So one can enjoy a cold and crowded shed in the rain along with everyone else.

In the old terminal, you got heated waiting rooms, toilets, a cafe, and much less traffic noise. Now only for long distance busses.

Waiting for the bus at the innovative Street terminal intended to rejuvenate downtown and make all the busses more efficient.

Just a bit freezing, but I'm sure splitting up the bus terminal into four stops on two streets will pay off in the long run.

The model really did not prep me for the architecture that was actually there.
November 13, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Something charming about poor 3D models on Google Earth, like this high rise in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

That being said, there is some humble sprawl that has appeared, like this alleged mixed use development called Emerald Acres. But it's no more then minutes apart from the rest of the town I suppose.
Could get bad if it's encouraged to go on, but can also be halted and integrated properly.

Four lane road with a centre turning lane? Room four four lanes, and bike lanes.
Can even get some roundabouts to improve traffic flow, boom, two lanes with greenery and bikes.

Also, outside the town, 14m/45ft of mowed ditch to each side of the road? Nice, one wide pedestrian/bike path please.
November 10, 2025 at 5:12 PM
Like a random one, Mattoon, Illinois. You can bike across this whole town in 30min with about no inclines.

One bike lane or wider sidewalks with some sheds put into existing parking lots, and then you have a great option for most folks.
Plus decent train station + densification possibilities.

Much more ambitious plans then I initially would have guessed as well. With musings about going further north from current construction, all the way up to the outer rim of the Mumbai metro area.

All of which is already serviced by probably the most intensively used commuter rail line in the world.
November 8, 2025 at 11:11 AM
This coastal road is also being expanded further north.

Don't got all that much traffic in your district? Well here is a brand new trumpet intersection coming straight from the sea to fix that for you!

The beaches will also get an excellent view to eight lanes of progress suspended in the sky.
November 8, 2025 at 11:05 AM
Real life freeways like this brand new one in Mumbai makes me feel I'm not actually all that outlandish with the way I do them in Cities Skylines.
November 8, 2025 at 12:54 AM
The simulation is some notches above the first game, which gives me an immense amount of satisfaction when I build a central train station and see people walking to and from it from every possible street and path available.
November 6, 2025 at 10:26 PM
Unintentionally gave the subway depot the best view of the city this time around. Suppose it beats suburban manors hogging that kind of view.
November 6, 2025 at 10:19 PM
There is something charming about making decorative building mass. Nonfunctional in every way, just so you can get a nice square-ish square to use as a parking lot.
November 3, 2025 at 9:56 PM
Notably on both ends it's a dead-end. But maybe that'll change in the future as they build more bike roads.
November 1, 2025 at 12:30 PM
This desert bike road seems to have properly done grade separation, or where needed, proper crossings.

It is one of several they have built, though it's the longest continuous one. The other ones parallel freeways as well, but with more landscaping and green paint.
November 1, 2025 at 12:30 PM
Had a peek at one of the desert freeways in Qatar. Where you get eight lane freeways with two frontage roads serving towns of 10k people.

I was caught off guard by it having a parallel bike road, which is 60 or so km long, running from the outskirts of Doha to the outskirts of Al Ruwais.

And the few that in theory should be good, also have flaws like the Future City station on that LRT line.

Please just drive to take the train, is the vibe you can't help but to get away with.
October 22, 2025 at 8:55 PM
There are also some bizzare ones, like this light rail station (acting as commuter rail), that is the capital airport station.

You can only access it via one right turn, and also it's five kilometres away from the airport. The airport is also a runway/terminal attatched to a millitary air base.
October 22, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Or here, where you have a new high speed rail station in the 6th of October City.
You will need to drive to the station, and it does not interface with the nearest of the brand new monorail stations servicing the city.

This is also one of the most central stations of the new high speed rail.
October 22, 2025 at 8:55 PM
That being said, some transit is also being built in this enormous infrastructure push. But with pedestrian hostile roads, good luck making it useful.

Like here in New Cairo, new monorail station! But good luck walking to it from numerous directions without getting rammed at high speed by a car.
October 22, 2025 at 8:55 PM
This stuff is also being retrofitted into existing neighbourhoods. Like here with Heliopolis, another suburb.

Wide avenues with parks, trees and narrow roads turn into wide roads with high speed and a reliance on possible u-turns.

Also a streetcar was torn out, but they got a metro station now.
October 22, 2025 at 8:55 PM
There are also these, where you'd prefer to have a trumpet intersection. Instead right-turn only, maybe with a u-turn if you are lucky.
Eerily many of them.
