I'm just waiting for an NFL commercial where TurboTax or H&R Block team up with Fan Duel or DraftKings to flush your tax refund right down the toilet.

For the last month, I have been shutting my two work laptops down and two monitors off at the end of the day and over the weekend, instead of leaving them on where I could jump on and answer any emails that pinged. Better peace of mind, and it looks like I saved about 30 kilowatt hours.

Ok, why have I never noticed that there is a “a” in the middle of “temperamental”? Or did I wake up this morning in a short story with an uninspired plot twist?

Great quote in my John Scalzi book today: “That’s religion for you—one day it’s a pleasant thing to do on the weekends; the next day you’re in the middle of a righteous theological cluster f@$#.”

I'm really interested in takes from legacy media organizations' on-air personalities about kids getting misinformation from TikTok when the same on-air personalities spent years platforming disinformation artists, framing issues into two sides, and shrinking the time for informed on-air convos.

Interesting conversation at work that development doesn't necessarily = improvement. It means change. It may mean leaving some skills behind. And at this point in my life there are lots of areas where I don't expect to improve, but I hope to adapt to continue to do things in a way that I enjoy.

Rhetoric peeps. I have a memory of a passage in a ubiquitous rhetoric book explaining the origin of the term "communication" as transmission of orders from the king to outlying provinces or armies. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Does anyone remember where that passage might be?
