Bad news: ÖBB has amended its contract with Siemens Mobility for the delivery of new passenger coaches. This means that no further Nightjet trains will be ordered (for the time being) – 33 seven-coach units were planned, 24 of which have been delivered to date.

📅 On 07/05, EU 🇪🇺Commission finally published its Guidelines on Track Access Charges. We urged recognition of #nighttrains as own segment.
✅ While regulatory change is still needed, the Guidelines now promote this and
✅ recommends to only charge direct cost for night trains.

📅 On 07/05, EU 🇪🇺Commission finally published its Guidelines on Track Access Charges. We urged recognition of #nighttrains as own segment.
✅ While regulatory change is still needed, the Guidelines now promote this and

in July 24 #VonderLeyen promised European citizens to make cross-border train tickets with full passenger rights possible again, in November #Tzitzikostas announced to deliver such a regulation in 2025. Short lived & skipped in the Commissions 2025 work plan. Time to act:

Nous avons enfin retrouvé un gouvernement fédéral. Et oui ! L'accord de coalition contient un passage sur les trains internationaux. Ce n'est pas grand-chose, mais il y a quand même quelques lignes, et les trains de nuit y sont explicitement mentionnés. We citeren:- Nous encourageons la coopération européenne dans le domaine du transport ferroviaire afin de multiplier et d’améliorer les liaisons ferroviaires européennes, tant au niveau du transport de marchandises que de personnes. On 25th Oct we joined forces with other groups in @staygrounded to have a trans-european pyjama party demanding more #nighttrains in 11 🇪🇺 cities simultaneously. Now the party people in 🇫🇷 Nantes made this great video capturing the 🎧 silent disco vibe: Watch and enjoy!

As we are in the process of proposing a target network for 2030. What do you think: Can we seriously include #nighttrains to Tallinn?
The state of affairs in what is strategically the most important 🇪🇺 EU railway project:
TLDR: #RailBaltica 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 was cut down to one track to be built by 2030, second track postponed indefinitely to a second stage. And financing for the first stage still isn’t secured yet.

As we are in the process of proposing a target network for 2030. What do you think: Can we seriously include #nighttrains to Tallinn?
With regard to #nighttrains the EP hearing of the Commission's transport candidate Tzitzokostas was rather disappointing. Not more than the vague target of connecting Europe's cities "also by night train". But other rail issues like ticketing, ETCS and TEN-T seem to get more weight - which is good.

The earlier the EU introduces a fossil jetfuel tax on flights within the EU the earlier we'll get a newtwork of hashtag#nighttrains. So please share - to stop the Hungarian EU presidency delaying the tax for another ten years.
Today transport industry leaders and NGOs are calling on the Commission to end the tax exemption for aviation and maritime fuels.
This exemption undermines our climate goals and hinders the development of sustainable alternatives.
