Just out here using my entire deductible 2 days into my new health insurance plan lol.

Also had an emergency vet visit today. (I’m fine!! Been a weird not great day but we’ll all be okay.)

Made a back cover for my Master Gardener handbook. Maybe a bit silly but when you have 1 million stickers for some reason, you might as well (eventually) use them! And it did spark Joy!

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?

Waittttt KAOS on Netflix is so good! Haven’t been on Netflix much lately so only just noticed it but it’s so fun and well done. Diverse cast - trans and disabled actors! And… then, found out it was canceled 😭 Netflix churns through content in a way that’s so disappointing.

While Trump “floods the zone,” we must stay focused.

NO to oligarchy, tax breaks for the rich and cuts to working class programs. NO to authoritarianism and unlimited power for one man.

YES to growing the union movement and raising wages. YES to health care as a human right.

The CHAMPIONS and ONLY TRUE DEFENDERS of women’s sports did WHAT?
NEWS: Trump's Department of Education has rescinded the guidance saying Title IX, the statute governing gender equity in sports, applies to House v. NCAA revenue-sharing payments.

It's one of the expected but drastic shifts in Trump's Title IX application. frontofficesports.com/trump-biden-...
Trump Education Dept. Pulls Biden’s NIL Pay Equity Rule
It’s one of several Biden-era policies related to Title IX that the Trump administration has almost immediately reversed.

As I shared last week, the US's first National Nature Assessment has been shut down: but the authors, led by @phillevin.bsky.social, are determined to continue. Read more: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/c...
Trump Killed a Major Report on Nature. They’re Trying to Publish It Anyway. (Gift Article)
The first full draft of the assessment, on the state of America’s land, water and wildlife, was weeks from completion. The project leader called the study “too important to die.”

Lichen - also wild! Unsure how I knew so little about it, honestly.

Lichen is a symbiotic relationship between fungi & algae!

Algae photosynthesize & feed the fungi / fungi protect the algae letting it live in environments where it normally can’t.

Was it worth staying up late to do extra reading?

Wild Friday night over here, but - y’all ever looked into slime molds?!

Touched on them in a botany unit I’m doing and they are WILD!

Things are bleak atm but I have to take a moment to appreciate being in my mid 30s and still being totally thrilled by the awe of this world.

It’s going to be really hard but we need to be ready to meet these folks where they’re at and have honest conversations with them to work our way out of this mess. Many of them are also victims in this nightmare, they just don’t see it yet. (Looking @ US white folks… we gotta talk to our people…)

I’ve doing an extension program (bees!) for approaching a year… As I’m beginning a new one (plants!) and prepping to start school again after a decade, I’m realizing I should have been taking handwritten notes all along.

My retention is immediately so much higher!

Sometimes you get caught up in the day-to-day minutiae of life and (as one must sometimes) feel like things are “normal” - then you see something like this and get reminded all at once of the absolute hellscape we are descending into.

Not all hero’s wear capes ❤️
Meta is renewing its threats against employees, telling them today that they will hunt for leakers and tolerate zero leaks.

Want to know how that is going? Three Meta employees who I’ve never spoken to before just cold messaged/emailed me offering me to be sources.

Update. I got to talk about bees again today. 😍 I need to workshop some canned intro lines to redirect people from honeybees into curiosity about native bees!

Today was a good day because somebody asked me a question about bees and then let me send them way too many texts about them. 😊

Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night.

I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.
