We work with policymakers to rethink zoning laws and bureaucracies that limit new homes and discourage small local projects. Let’s re-legalize neighborhoods with homes in more shapes and sizes.

Three cheers to Flagstaff for––as of a few minutes ago––becoming the first city in Arizona (and maybe the entire southwest?) to legalize fourplexes on every residential lot citywide.

And congrats to Flagstaff for Affordable Housing & @azneighborhood.bsky.social for leading the charge!
Last year the #azleg passed HB2721 to require cities to allow #middlehousing around their central business districts. Last night the Flagstaff P&Z commission approved a plan to apply the middle housing law citywide! Thank you Flagstaff for taking a lead in addressing the state’s #housingcrisis.

Governor Hobbs signed HB2928, allowing casitas in counties! THANK YOU 🙏🏡

And we appreciate the County Supervisor’s Association of Arizona working with us - so great to see counties leading the way on housing once again.

Two laws Arizona passed today (led by @azneighborhood.bsky.social) that will enable more abundant housing in the state:

1. SB 1353 allows 3rd party permitting for new housing
2. SB 1182 expands the times construction is allowed during the day & evening

Modest but meaningful steps forward!

Arizona seems somewhat more susceptible to people leaving due to high housing costs as the state is really founded on being cheap. No one moves to PHX for a 2-hour commute, which is about what it takes to afford a house and work in the center of the region. www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/arizona...
More than 1 in 4 people thinking of leaving Arizona over housing costs
A new poll shows how big a problem the housing crisis has become in Arizona.

By allowing a variety of missing middle housing types in traditionally single-family only neighborhoods, developers in Portland are now able to produce housing to meet varied demands. These 2-bed, 2-bath townhomes sold for $350,000, $200,000 less than the median 1F price.

Allowing small-lot starter homes would give more Arizona families a path to homeownership and spur the production of badly needed housing.

Let your legislators know you support the Starter Homes Act!

The Arizona Starter Homes Act is back! The bill would preclude cities from various mandates that increase housing costs, without any health or safety basis, including large minimum lot sizes, unworkable setbacks, and costly design mandates.
