when using vimium (a browser extension that, among other things, highlights links/buttons you could click on the page) you really notice that the vast majority of "SUBSCRIBE TO MY NEWSLETTER" full screen popups, don't have proper semantic close buttons. I wonder why...

There are so many great ATProto articles out there, but I wanted to write one that strips things back for the non-tech crowd. This one’s for my friends back home, my mum, and anyone else who just wants to know why I’m building on this weird, wonderful protocol.

so it really seems like substacks secret sauce for "driving growth" is just like... 5-10 screens after hitting subscribe where they try to upsell you?

a concept I keep coming back to over time is that advertising revenue should be taxed progressively at an extremely high rate, like starting at 50% and getting up to like 95% or something

Still a little rough around the edges, but you can now pull your @leaflet.pub posts and read them locally with Noteleaf (as markdown)!

graze.leaflet.pub/3m4yjmbnyec2... it's nuts how much better we're going to be able to make things

knowledge, context, detail will *always* live at edges. An architecture that ignores this, and assumes a singular organization (or "agent" lmao) can "figure it out" is gonna get its ass kicked

If you're here now, it's going to be some of y'all's job in a lil bit to make new spaces that bud off leaflet and bring back these cozy vibes

lol you could approximate likes at the bottom of your leaflet post by having a one vote poll

Seems sorta like ddos mitigation didn't mitigate most of the ddos? Unsure how to deal with this kinda thing going forward, there is a vercel bot management challenge type thing, but I *hate* serving captchas to real users, so idk.

www.aaronrosspowell.com/3m4jmwemgkk2... would be into this ! The main blocker is the bluesky action intent links don't support adding images. This would be handy too as it could let us add alt text of the quotes!

I ended up implementing the poll lexicon just scoped under pub.leaflet but could p easily migrate it in the future if we come to a shared one! Would love to use this to bootstrap a general purpose poll tool.

lol no but I do think an atproto tier list app could go decently viral (and generate a reallllly cool data set for further apps to do interesting social things!!)

Showing my history a bit lol but this was literally the DApp dream back in the day, except we had to pipe requests through metamask+infura for identity and data, everything was slow, and all the libraries were incredibly bad lmao. What we have now is incredible

Building on the atmosphere really feels like lego in a way no other ecosystem does. No backend necessary (until appview), lexicons already exist for tons of the features you want, literally deploying client only static pages and you get an app.

It's awesome.
hyl.st sōm @hyl.st · 19d
Think it's looking a lot nicer :)

Got comments going too, I used @leaflet.pub's lexicon seems to work well for general use case of threaded comments on the atmosphere, thanks friends!

We might actually launch this thing yet!

Now the hard part: AppViews!

anyone have any new thoughts on fragments in at-uris? wanted to use it for indexing poll votes using constellation (cc: @bad-example.com) which afaict doesn't currently index at-uris if a fragment is present
we don't have firm plans, just reserving for future use.

for fragments, we previously specified that JSON Path in the fragment could be used to reference specific fields or sub-structure within records.
