Powell's post Fed-meeting presser is live, here: www.federalreserve.gov/live-broadca...

The official statement was quite uninformative. If last month is anything to go by, this might be where the real news is.

"And so what we heard Powell say today was actually two sources of worry. He looks deeply worried. Either something's going wrong with the economy or something's going wrong with his Botox." Let's dig into what today's Fed decision really means:

Tariffs are like throwing rocks in the economic engine, then asking the Fed to fix the noise by adjusting the radio volume. Interest rates can tune demand, but they can’t magically make a trade war painless.

"A lot of people very, very concerned about the state of their personal economies right now, people who are worried that the unemployment rate has been rising over the past year, that manufacturing employment continues to fall, that inflation continues to be higher than the Fed's target."

Economics isn't just about outcomes, it's about stories. If the president doesn't win the battle of ideas or honestly explain trade-offs, people assume they're being gamed. Even decent numbers won't feel good without straight talk about who pays for what.

Hidden in Trump's Big, Beautiful Betrayal is a nasty provision that lets fossil fuel CEOs pay to have their environmental reviews fast-tracked and avoid judicial review.

In Trump's America, polluters live above the law while public health and our environment suffer.

Think of BLS data as the economy’s highway system: invisible, vital, taken for granted. Corrupt it, and every decision—from Fed policy to plant openings—crashes.

Good stats → Good choices → Higher living standards.
Bad stats → Bad choices → Lower living standards.

Our nation’s military and police are not Trump’s personal toy Soldiers to use whenever he wishes—

America is not a dictatorship.

And using our heroes to intimidate, surveil and crush dissent is straight out of an authoritarian playbook.

Think of data as a lighthouse: once it’s there, everyone can use it, and your use doesn’t diminish mine. That’s why we don’t leave lighthouse-building to the market — and why government collects & shares economic data.

Under-appreciated point. I was talking with a friend last week who watches TV news, is active on social media & considers herself politically aware, but had no idea her Medi-Cal coverage is in fact California’s Medicaid.

In light of the news that the US economy has *lost* jobs under Donald Trump, it bears a reminder that the US economy *never* lost jobs in *any* month under Joe Biden.

What an incompetent loser Donald is.

Thank you to Stacy for sharing her story - and for doing what any parent would do to make sure their daughter has the care she needs to live at home.

As this bill on GOP Medicaid cuts goes back to the House, it’s not too late to remind Washington politicians just how much is at stake.

You’ve seen this movie before: Maybe Reagan guessed, Bush hoped, and Trump tried—but tax cuts never paid for themselves. Given the mountain of evidence, claiming once again that "tax cuts will pay for themselves" is no longer ideologically motivated optimism.

It's a lie.
