Today, 109 years ago, the Battle of Verdun started. It would be one of the bloodiest and most senseless battles of the Great War. From these trenchlines, close to the French lines, the Germans started the attack on the Bois de Caures, where Lieutenant Colonel Driant died the next day.

My first post on Bluesky. A picture of me in a German frontline trench, photographing a machinegun post in Bois Juré, near Flabas above Verdun.
This trenchline was very close to the French lines and was the frontline from which the Battle of Verdun started on the 21st of February 1916
