If Caltrans District 4 is listening, the intersection at University and W. Frontage Road in Berkeley just cries out for a traffic roundabout treatment like one on Gilman at I-80. There didn’t appear to be serious injuries, thankfully.

That's odd. No problem on my phone.

Huge turnout in Albany, CA with lots of great signs, but this was my fav. #NoKings

RSR Bridge Path Closures start on Monday 10/27/25.

Remember riding the new A. Zuckermann Path, watching the old Bay Bridge being dismantled, & marveling: "We used to drive on THAT?"

I get the same uneasy feeling on the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge today.

Someone should be planning for a RSR Bridge replacement. Like, NOW.

A friend just send me this photo. Appears it was taken on Russell St at College Ave in Berkeley’s Elmwood neightborhood. Sorry I can’t give credit to the photographer.

Here’s a map of the intersection with the strange slip-lane thingy circled in RED. Good location to implement a roundabout, methinks.

Hey #CityOfElCerrito,

Nearly hit by a speeding driver approaching an unusual & dangerous 5-way intersection at Ashbury/Ablemarle/Stockton while I was cycling to buy pet food. Why does this slip-lane thingy even exist? Just to expedite drivers entering the 7/11 parking lot?

Kudos to @berkeleyca.gov for creating this raised crossing at Franklin when the Ohlone Greenway near N Berkeley BART was repaved. All ped/bike crossings should be like this.

Nice day for a bike ride on the SF Bay Trail today, but CalTrans always seems to ensure cyclists don't have a moments peace.

At least there’s a fence & berm. Bikes are allowed on I-280 between Trousdale & Millbrae, no protection whatsoever. I rode it once just to see how bad it was.

Other similar craziness exists on CA1 between SLO & Morro Bay and US 101 between SLO & Santa Margarita.

Gotta be other examples, too.

Love this trompe l'œil.

Imagine there were still streetcars stopping at the top of Solano Avenue in Berkeley and throughout the East Bay.

Imagine.

Nothing says “freedom” like a young man in a BMW doing donuts near the Shipyard 3 Trail at Point Richmond.

It’s almost impossible for Berkeley to build safe streets, reduce VMT, create new housing, or maintain bus routes for school children, but at least we’ve been a nuclear free zone since 1986!

Now if only Albany & @berkeleyca.gov could collaborate on traffic calming for the longest unsignalized crosswalk in Berkeley - Solano Ave at Tacoma Ave. Most of the intersection lies in Albany. The extraordinary width encourages double-parking, u-turns, & speeding.

Stuff is happening in Albany, CA.
Marin Ave & Ordway. Just talked to the workers on site and it appears that the street will be repaved and bulb outs added to slow high speed turns off of Marin Avenue. Kudos C hey ity of Albany!

PG&E replacing utility poles in our ‘hood & to keep lights on, 2 diesel generators are attached to our local circuit. Also 2 diesel trucks have been idling for hours.

Renting a diesel generator supports cancer research? Pretty ironic, that. Waiting for them to connect the dots.

Still waiting.

Potentially unpopular take. E-motorcycles/dirt bikes, operated by inconsiderate riders, provide just one more way for people to direct competition/frustration/anger toward others in inappropriate & hazardous ways.

It seems America has a problem w/ impulse control, anger, & a desire for vengeance.

Nearly t-boned in Albany, CA by 2 young men, dressed in black, on a black electric motorcycle, running a red light. Luckily I saw them & stayed out of the way.

Electric motorcycles operated by young people w/ limited experience/training who make poor decisions are a hazard to themselves & others.

Why get in a 2 ton vehicle to drive 6 miles round trip to buy 3 pounds of goods?

Ride a bike, get to the store faster, parking is easier, & ... YOU'LL HAVE A BLAST !

4 cans of dog food, my favorite #walzcycling cap, & partial view of a #TailFin tear rack/bag.

"Speed humps embody what I like to call mundane mobility: under-the-radar transportation upgrades that are cheap, easy and effective.”

Too often, city DOTs think they have to go all-in on street redesign. In Berkeley, traffic calming is a years-long process with many hoops that need to be cleared.

Monday morning on Solano Ave in Berkeley/Albany. There's almost no car traffic, & virtually all of the parking spaces are empty, so shouldn't this street be pedestrianized with only buses and bikes allowed?
August 4, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Access to Berkeley's Gilman cycle track was not thought through. AT ALL.

No signal detection for westbd bikes at 4th/Gilman

Beg button out of reach for a cyclist

No protection from drivers turning right on red

Many use Cordonices Path to access the cycle track, so this intersection is important.
