all this H5N1 stuff is making me think of when my 90-year-old grandpa got the bird flu a few years ago and just didn’t tell any of us
Today we learned that:

- The Canadian H5N1 influenza virus case has sequencing results suggesting enhanced adaptation to human infection
- The US has had its first case of clade 1 mpox, which *may* be more lethal than the clade II viruses that currently circulate
