Dumb Times headline.

In fact - as article itself explains - OBR *does* estimate both short-term fiscal impacts *and* long-term fiscal revenue/costs (including infra costs).

Finds recent migrants likely to be significant benefit on both (link in next post)

There is already a constitutional crisis in US.

That cat is now out of its bag, that horse has bolted, the genie uncorked.

This hearing - and any sanctions imposed - may determine whether that crisis abates or exacerbates.
New: The Trump admin has been ordered by chief US district judge James Boasberg to show up to a 4p ET hearing today and clarify whether they defied his court order compelling the return of deportation flights of suspected Venezuelan gang members

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

Pretty disturbed by some of the Kremlin framing on the Trump talks being bought by parts of the media worldwide. It’s as if the genesis of the war is entirely forgotten. This isn’t a conflict which needs mediation. It was an unprovoked act of aggression. It could end tomorrow if Putin just withdrew.

It follows the accidental firing of nuclear safety staff last Friday.

And the accidental firing of FAA’s experienced aviation safety staff.

An important thread about Ukraine and European security from the former minister of foreign affairs of Lithuania.

Worth reading. Europe must act fast. Not only for its own security but also for the climate. Russian and American fossil fuel interests cannot be allowed to dictate European priorities.
Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good.
