This is where you build a ballpark, people. Where people can easily walk to it, bike to it, take public transit to it. Car-dependent ballparks, stadiums, arenas are straight-up stupid planning.

day 3:

the walking distance from the furthest parking spot to a dodger stadium entrance is nearly 760 m, or ~1/2 mi on a full-lot game day.

it's so huge, you could lay the CN tower down horizontally from this corner and it would fit in the parking lot with room to spare!

dodger stadium's 16,000-spot parking lot is so huge, it could fit ~10 more dodger stadiums in its place. a monument to socal's asphalt addiction more than to baseball.

meanwhile in toronto, an actual walkable, bustling city exists around the stadium

day 1:

walking to the baseball game from the nearest train station

in LA: hike up a hill for 30 minutes and then across a parking lot

in toronto: walk 10 minutes on a street usually closed to cars during games, from the city's transit hub where multiple train and subway lines meet

It’s jacaranda time in Brisbane. They are emblematic here & bloom in a riot of purple sprinkled over the city. The local story for university students is they signal time to study for end of year exams. For everyone else, time to enjoy their vibrancy and the purple carpet as their flowers fall.

The UK is within spitting distance of having more murders portrayed annually on TV shows and movies set in the country than occur in real life
It's so incredible how low homicide rates are in Europe. The UK, with a population of 70 million people, had fewer than 600 murders in 2023.

It’s interesting how we are asked to justify why there is an English Department at a college but not why there is an athletics program

I think both are valuable but it’s interesting which one is more likely to be on the ropes, again, at a college

I took a little ride on the Funicolare Monte Brè in Lugano #Switzerland. 🇨🇭

Whisks you up to 933 metres, with great views towards Campione d’Italia, a little enclave of #Italy on Swiss territory. (Ok, it’s a casino.)

Just as fun coming down…
