I was already drifting away from meatball action stuff but the first few minutes of Raging Bull in my early teens is when something fully flipped, one of the most profound before and after experiences I’ve had with art
I'm totally going to steal this as an idea for a prompt. I'm wondering about a lot of my peers and followers what turned them into cinephiles. For me, it was working in a theater as a teenager in 1984, and starting to see things I would never have paid for (like AMADEUS and THE COMPANY OF WOLVES).

Good thing I’m (hopefully) graduating this year…
The Cal State University system (23 campuses, 450k students) is becoming “an AI powered university.” Unclear what it means besides license for ChatGPT. Also: WHO WANTS THIS? Most professors are fighting vs AI; now we’re officially endorsing it? #calstate #ai #ChatGPT #university #philsky

Using the security camera we bought after the white anime YouTuber hopped our very difficult to hop back fence in a panicked drug-fueled quest to who knows where to spy on our new neighbor’s extremely corny looking short film shoot

The Brutalist is very good. Flawed but hardly as derivative or try-hard as the negative reviews claim. And it’s not all that ambiguous about its criticism of Zionism. Also, dedicated to Scott Walker.

Manifesting a complete collection of Barry Malzberg’s (as Mike Barry) 14 book Lone Wolf series. Or at least a good copy of Revelations that isn’t $100+. Maybe a handful of his pornos too.

I’ve become a reading a book about the Third Reich and thinking everything happening in the U.S. right now actually does line up pretty well with Germany in the ‘30s guy

I’m not sure what my first Lynch movie was, probably Blue Velvet, but Eraserhead was the first movie I ever downloaded (in 2002?). Took several days. Horrible quality, looked awful. Still an incredibly formative experience.

Damn. What can you even say? It seemed clear The Return was the end of his film career, but what an end! What a career! One of the great American artists.
David Lynch, Visionary Director of ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Blue Velvet,’ Dies at 78
Director David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like 'Blue Velvet,' has died. He was 78.

Deeply moved by all the anguished and angry screaming and flailing in Andy Milligan’s Seeds

This stuff is incredibly depressing. I’m not good at having dreams or making big plans so I more or less dropped whatever ideas I might’ve had about steering my career towards film library/archive work early in my transition to the library world but it’d be nice if it even felt like a possibility.
Here's a statement from the Executive Committe of FIAF (the International Federation of Film Archives) concerning the recent dismissal of eight senior employees from the Academy Film Archive. Spoiler alert: they are not in favor of it.

Only about halfway through, and it’s not central to the book, but this pretty convincingly frames Milligan as a scuzzier, more misanthropic American Fassbinder
