🚨 Monday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the *lowest* on record (JAXA data)

• about 350,000 km² below the 2010s mean
• about 1,010,000 km² below the 2000s mean
• about 1,590,000 km² below the 1990s mean

Cool new paper on single cell nutrient uptake measurement of polar #phytoplankton and how they affect their surroundings

#ProtistsOnSky
Tough guys: A new study shows that ice #algae grow extremely efficiently, despite having hardly any #nutrients at hand. They can thus accelerate #glacier #melting, highly relevant for our #climate.

I am thrilled this paper led by Jorge Santos-Bruña is out: This mesocosm experiment in 2017 was my first contact with "real science" and it's exciting to see how far I've come in the meantime.

Want to know all the details on how much climate change and terrigenous inputs affect biological carbon cycling? And how much it changes between emission scenarios?

We have you covered, also for nitrogen.
