The US has never been A Democracy. At best, it has been A Constitutional Republic. James Madison saw government's role as “protecting the opulent minority from the majority”. What little remained of Democracy in this nation has been on life-support since the assassination of JFK in 1963.

Sadly, Interstate 10, Interstate 40 and Interstate 15 destroyed much of the thriving businesses which flourished when Route 66 was a main highway in California. It is often depressing seeing how much of San Bernardino County (such as Ludlow), which has never recovered.

I was a member of the last all-black graduating class when Mount Zion Elementary School (MZES) was still a “separate-but-equal” / “equalization” school on Segregated Johns Island, South Carolina.

Thank You for sharing. "Route 66" has been a passion of mine since the 1964 teLIEvision show. I have used old maps, and since 1982 I have taken thousands of photographs (Santa Monica-Needles). I have seen / experienced things which remind me, that but for the Grace-of-God, I would not be here.
Here is a pic of Citadel v. College of Charleston (C of C) when PC (RIP was on the basketball team. C of C still used a black spear-chucking Camerron as its mascot. Only after Blacks were finally allowed in C of C did the mascot change to "Cougars" as those first Blacks graduated in 1970.

Even though I have several close-relatives who graduated from The Citadel, I despise that school. Pat Conry (RIP), was one of the-few who I ever respected. I have all of his books and films based on his books. My USMC Brats accuse me of being as mean as "The Great Santini"....jajajajajajaja

I simply detest hearing people who believe that they are sounding politically-sophisticated by using bumper sticker quips like “Drink the Kool-Aid.” Anyone who uses such quips is either Ignorant or simply Insensitive, because more than 900 people died on November 18, 1978, in Jonestown, Guyana.
