A spotlight on the obscure: Planet Laika from 1999. Co-developed by Quintet and Zeque, it's a surreal psychological horror adventure game with more in common with point 'n' clickers than JRPGs.

A couple of years ago, it received its first full English translation and I dove right in.
The title screen for Planet Laika with its pulpy cosmonaut scifi fonts and vibes that feel pretty Futurama-ish. "Long ago, Earth and Mars made a pact where humans surrendered their faces to the Martians in exchange for peace. As soon as Martians wore these faces, their kind went extinct, and the planet was overtaken by runaways and exiles. Then, as if of its own will, Mars began to emit a vile energy that fed malice. That energy was named Evil Mind." A view of the gameplay with someone wearing an orange and cream industrial vibes 60ish space suit on a pre-rendered landscape of red and orange sands and sky with dead trees, rusted girders, and other detritus. Two characters, one in a green space suit, standing in front of a TOS Star Trek-ey building and door. One is saying they remembered something 'eavy.

I haven't really been here that much lately, nor I haven't really been online all that much in general. I think my time spent at sea has been good for me in ways I could not have imagined. Sometimes I forget how vast this world really is till I'm out there.
