I can tell you what unions do
a church showing 10 things HR is not responsible for 1. babysitting adults who are hired to lead: if leaders can't lead, support, or communicate, that's their accountability, not HR's job to manage around 2. predicting the future: we're not oracles. Don't expect HR to foresee what will happen next quarter while leadership keeps changing direction weekly. 3. magically solving systemic problems overnight: if a problem took years to create, HR can't fix it with a policy and a pulse survey. 4. being the party planner and the fun police: HR isn't there to throw events and also discipline employees for not being engaged enough. 5. owning the entire culture: culture isn't built in HR it's built by leaders. we support it we don't single-handedly create or protect it. 6. doing the manager's jobs: performance conversations? team check-ins? coaching that's a manager role, not HR's daily task. 7. solving people issues solo: HR can't fix what systems and leadership continuously break. collaboration is required. 8. reading minds: we can't meet needs that no one articulates. honest communication is greater than silent assumptions. 9. managing team performance: HR builds the system. but performance is owned by the person leading the team. 10. fixing mental health harm from poor leadership: offering EAPs is not enough. HR can't heal damage leadership keeps causing.
