Family was chatting about the languages that we know "at least some words/phrases in" the other day. I need to update this, as my list actually totaled 19, although I've lost a lot of fluency over the decades due to disuse. My children have a few that I don't - Japanese, for example. 2/3

Ah, this brings back memories from language school (Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, CA, 1976-77)
We could begin a conversation in English, and cycle through the languages we were all studying (Russian-Vietnamese-Turkish,etc) & be mutually comprehensible despite the differences. 1/3
