When I was in school, one of my chef-instructors was a health inspector on the side. He taught our food safety classes. So I have that perspective when I say: food workers. When you pick something up off the floor, or handle the trashcan or a broom, change your fucking gloves. Please.

I’m a little worried about Zippy. He spent more time on my lap today than he did in the entirety of 2014. He stayed even after I told him I loved him. He usually runs away when I say that. Is he hanging with me because he’s elderly? Confused? Lost track of time?

As a gay man who lived through the AIDS epidemic, DADT/DOMA, and the marriage equality fight, I’ve known and felt bigotry and hatred on a deep and personal level. But what’s being shown to the immigrant community in Charlotte is on another level. Same hatred, but with masks and assault rifles.

Last night, I dreamed about a long ago coworker. In my dream he said “do you want to get married I’ll take care of everything” and I said sure. He walked up to me with a paper and said it’s done, I’m going to bed and I got us a son. And there was a six year old. I said “well done” and that was that.
