Similar story here. I had no interest in watching sports, especially football, but then I went to college in Buffalo and had to know the Bills’ home game schedule to avoid getting stuck in stadium traffic… and it slowly grew on me. (Tuning in to see the snowy games helped that along.)

My main problem with mayo (and mayo-based sauces and dressings) is it’s often used excessively. Thick globs that drip out of a sandwich. 😬
Even used moderately, I find that it mutes other flavors and coats my mouth until I brush my teeth.
I’m happy for those who enjoy it, but… I don’t get it.
