Folks in gaming have so internalized the idea that the huge live service games are huge that they are rarely brought up as why new games struggle to find an audience.

New games struggle (imo primarily) because there's no air for them to breathe. The biggest competitor to any new game is Fortnite.

Doesn’t look like there’s anything I care about dropping this first Friday of the year besides Lil Baby.

Ethel Cain is probably my most anticipated January music release though.

I don’t think he really fell off. He still has his core fanbase. I think the sound of his last album wasn’t what people expected from him. After listening to it again, recently, he didn’t fall off as a rapper. His sound just was different.
Lil baby is an interesting case study. But I feel like he was too one dimensional in the music space. He needed to diversify his fan base to sell shows
Can we study Roddy Rich or Lil Baby’s instead?

That kind of take deserves the bin. Not worth your time.

As someone who has spent far too much of his life really digging into video game sales - and believes there's a lot to learn from them - the one thing to absolutely NOT take away from sales of a game is that low sales of a game somehow equate to low quality... or vice-versa.
