Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

If your writing didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be going after our books and our stories and desperately trying to rewrite them and/or destroy them.

You're still a reader even if:

📚You don't read what's trendy, new, and popular
📚You take months to finish reading a book
📚You listen to audio books
📚You only read graphic novels or manga
📚You go to the library or borrow from friends instead of buying books

Noncomprehensive list ofc 🫶

I wrote this for myself and posted it to my blog as a form of accountability to remind myself to avoid the outrage/despair cycle.

In honor of FDR’s CCC, I’m calling my rubric the 5Cs:

Cope/curate
Care
Connect
Construct
Challenge

Got myself a One Line a Day Five Year Memory Book to begin 2025 because:

1) We’re gonna be in for some very rough years and I could use this like an apocalyptic log of sorts

2) I wanted to do more journaling and this seems like a fun project to do

Taking a break from the insanity of reality. Finding a balance by doing good things that reward us all. Making us stronger in our belief that being good is part of the ultimate goal. That's what truly separates us from negativity and selfishness. To love and be loved.

everything is pretty bad and it's going to get worse and I think we need to remember to give ourselves license to post about silly things too

In Iceland, on Christmas Eve, people give each other books so they can spend the evening drinking cocoa & reading. It’s called, Jolabokaflod, the Christmas book flood. I’ve never been more in love with Iceland than I am right now ♥️♥️

I’ve got a Kindle, but I’ll always come back to physical books
Does anyone else still prefer reading physical books over e-books???

I am a big advocate for preserving video games.
So it's always awesome to see groups of people doing just that.
Even random old mobile games that people would neglect, are getting preserved and that's really cool to me

If you're a writer, translator, editor, anyone who works in writing, then you should read.

Read novels, short stories, articles, non-fiction, anything. Just read.
