It’s great that Apple Maps driving indications tell me to make an illegal turn. Designed in California, I guess. When will tech companies be liable for stuff like this?

Does anyone I know near Lisbon have an old Apple Studio Display with DVI or ADC plug? If so, please ping me!

Very sad news, Ben Versteeg from ByteDelight passed away. His store sold a lot of really cool stuff for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum world, including the Harlequin kits that I didn't get to buy. :( You will be missed. RIP.

“It looks like the gift card I tried to redeem, which did not work for me, and did not credit my account, was already redeemed in some way (sounds like classic gift card tampering), and my account was caught by that.”

So does this mean anyone who, by mistake, tries to redeem a gift card that […]

I finally took the electric bus doing the route home that’s usually done by diesel buses. This thing is driving up the hill on the highway (A5 for those who know it) and it’s almost dead quiet. Love it! Hope they keep buying more of these. ⚡️🚌

#retroapple peeps, do I have to do anything special when switching graphics cards on an AGP PowerMac G5? I have two cards of the exact same model (the Mac version), the original one is detected, the other is not. I don’t remember having to do anything when I managed a pool of these things but my […]

it's truly amazing what LLMs can achieve. we now know it's possible to produce an html5 parsing library with nothing but the full source code of an existing html5 parsing library, all the source code of all other open source libraries ever, a meticulously maintained and extremely comprehensive […]

The bad news is the graphics card I bought on eBay to replace my G5 original card doesn’t work at all. It’s not even detected.

The good news is my original card seems to work perfectly via DVI with the Asus display as long as I set it to 50Hz!

But I’m […]

Have to reboot an M4 Max because Tahoe, even with all this ludicrous computing power, can’t play audio without dropping frames as soon as anything hits the CPU.

After rebooting I have to unplug and replug the audio jack of my wired headphones because Tahoe fails to check if the headphones are […]

Question for designers and developers, does anyone know a font similar to this with a license that clearly allows integrating into a free software application (without any changes to the font itself)? Ideally free but paid is ok if cheap […]

Most people bring back from a concert a combination of memories, hear damage and illicit substances. I bring… an AirPort card? Yes! Thank you @v3louria! 😁 Let’s see if it works!

These have been a few weeks from hell to me. But I already had the tickets, and it was amazing to watch Kruder & Dorfmeister playing the K&D Sessions live in Lisbon today. ❤️ Thank you guys, I needed this.

Something I wish hospital staff understood is turning on the TV is *not* a quality life improvement for patients.

Since the Timex Sinclair interface has a RAM chip intentionally made to have the same pinout as the ROM, adjusting my circuit and code to test the RAM was quite easy. Look at that 1 KB of RAM being tested! 😁 The first chip is all good, will test the chip from […]

I ended up coming to Inércia festival! Lots of cool things here as usual. Starting with a Mac LC III restored by @luisfcorreia and my own Spectrum being tested (and it’s working perfectly so I guess I have a bit of a challenge ahead figuring out why the FDD interface won’t boot 😅).

I haven’t posted a lot about #retrocomputing on my timeline. Between some professional changes that I’m still adapting to, and a family health problem that is finally better after a rushed surgery, there has been a lot of stress and not a lot of time (also, an enormous THANK YOU to all the […]

The integration between Swift package manager and Xcode makes me want to be a farmer. I don’t understand how is it possible for a company like Apple to ship something so broken (well, I do).

This after spending time I don’t have trying to understand why I did the exact same steps on two new […]

Is there a built-in way in #swiftui to have some kind of List, LazyVStack, whatever, that gets its content from a lazy sequence? As in automatic lazy and potentially infinite scrolling based on a lazy sequence providing the values as needed?

I may have bought a graphics card for the G5 from eBay by a really great price, and shipped from the EU, described as tested and working, just before going to bed yesterday. Let’s see if it’s up to the claim! It’s the same model I have now, the Radeon 9600 Mac version.

I’ve read the DVI synch […]

Another good one: the RPI 5 is not able to connect to Wi-Fi if the output resolution is set to 4K? Wow. That's some bad HW design.
