Do you think sci-fi and dystopias are blueprints?

Are you a billionaire?

If so, STOP.

You may be inadvertently ending the world. Please speak to your nearest librarian or sci-fi/dystopian author immediately.

Thank you.

Shameless self promotion

Write books

🙋 We're "not supposed" to use adjectives either, so how do we adequately describe the changing tones and flows of conversation?People don't talk like robots.
The "rules" are a lie!

Raise your hand if you break the rule of only using "said" in your dialogue tags. 🙋‍♀️

There's nothing quite like spending an hour revising, then realising the paragraphs you've just added would be better in a different chapter, and you can't just copy'n'paste because all the context is different.
A quick 15 minutes to swear profusely, then back to it.

My current read is at the side of my desk whilst I'm working the day job and it's... whispering to me.

I wonder if it knows I need the job to buy more books.

Maybe that's why it wants me fired.

Maybe it's jealous.

Celebrating my 500th consecutive day working on my writing by resharing the post I wrote when I passed one year.
With all this time spent, you'd think I might have finished my next book by now...

I didn't know so many readers had such a fanatical interest in whaling that they'd happily accept the prioritisation of extravagant prose over pacing and plot.
Moby-Dick, puzzlingly popular.

I'm buying books at a quicker rate than I'm reading them.

If that's a problem, and I'm yet to be convinced it is, it's of reading-rate not buying-rate.

Moby-Dick is the most beautifully-written textbook I've ever read.

Twice this week I've been within half a mile of a bookshop.
Twice I didn't even attempt to resist its siren call.
Twice I left with multiple books.

My bank balance might not like it, but I wish more weeks were like this 😍📚📙📚

Is it weird I've never had imposter syndrome?
I finished rereading my debut this week, for the first time since it was published in 2017, and I enjoyed it.
No cringing.
No regrets.
Any other authors think imposter syndrome isn't compulsory?
Or am I a freak?

Every "self-promotion for introverts" piece I've seen suggests "stop being an introvert".

I'm going to write a piece titled "how extroverts can stop feeling lonely" and suggest "stop being an extrovert".
