From Safe Haven:

It felt like he kept trying to edge Haven into a corner from one direction, then the next, then the next. To trap him into vulnerability? Honesty?

From Safe Haven:

From couch to armchair, Bliss and Bennie shared a couple look, knowing in their own special language. Perry’s stomach squirmed.

From Safe Haven:

A generous interpretation was that Haven was giving the friends space to catch up; a less generous one would be that he was avoiding being relegated to third-wheel status in his own home.

From Safe Haven:

It made Haven want something — selfishly — more than he had wanted anything in a very long time. He wanted to keep spending his time under Perry’s attention.

Nothing like having the insurance agency of the truck that rear-ended you in an at-fault state with a witness and a driver who admitted fault multiple times completely ghost you. (Been having a bad week)

I've read a lot of the Great Gatsby retellings since it went into the public domain and I find it interesting how long most of them are compared to the original. Just a testament to how effective the original less than 50k words of the original were.

From Safe Haven:

Warning sirens beeped with each movement as an excavator dug into silty dirt, the shouts of a dozen construction workers calling back and forth filled the air, and yet Verity spoke more than loud enough to be heard.

Where are the main places you get reading recs from? For me, from friends/family, from what my friends are reading and reviewing on goodreads, library browsing (I'm a librarian, so this happens every day), searching for books with specific tropes, archtypes, or readalikes to books I like.

But Sincere, his best friend... His shoulder to lean on, cry on, vent to, who was always ready to lie and say Perry was with them when he wasn’t, and always amicable to Perry trailing off mid-conversation to start scribbling out a new plant theory.

I used to only write stories chronlogically (probably because I started with fanfic where you push serially), now I jump all around the place in my first draft. It's a patchwork quilt that I make make sense later. #WritSky #WritingCommunity

From Safe Haven:

Haven didn’t live all that lavishly... He had nice things, but not a horde and nothing show-off-y. He had a lot of space, but only filled the necessary parts.

As a writer who started their writing journey with fanfiction, many of my earliest writing lessons were by trial and error experience. One such lesson was learning how to come up with story titles.

Depictions of the earliest human ancestors often showed them rubbing sticks together until fire sparked. What were words but modern humans’ kindling? An alluring friction of banter?

"The coldness had almost completely taken over, from toe to fingertip, head to heart. Everyone thinks of anger as hot, and of monsters as loud. But anger is more like a snake: cold-blooded and lying dormant until threatened enough to strike."
