I do not like dates by themselves, but my GOD I adore these. Cup of tea or coffee and one of them is the best winter treat.

I'm sure! They're sooo good. The date flavor is so much better if you can resist touching them for a week. Not everyone in my family likes them but they're probably my and my grandma's favorite Christmas baking tradition.

They rarely last that long though.

The only exception I make to that is my grandma's date bars, which start off almost a dry but tender genoise with bits of dates in, and end up these chewy, caramel-date flavored bits of heaven rolled in powdered sugar. They get better and better. Like a month aging is great!

My grandma has a very good gingersnap recipe. I think I'll have to make them in January.

I do think that crunchy cookies that go chewy are a bit different than ones that start out soft. I like the full lifespan of a gingersnap!
