CCS is a very appealing thing to believe in, emotionally. These are the areas where we need to focus our honesty most diligently.

Reduce your own emissions because, knowing what we know, it will make you feel better to! That’s enough
Lots of people these days saying to me: "why bother reducing emissions, because *insert excuse person here* isn't doing it?"

At some point I'm tired of making intricate utilitarian arguments, even if they're true. Bottom line: I don't want to burn gas because emissions are bad.

If I can rip out a gas furnace at my home, thereby making an incremental contribution to protecting children (which is literally the stakes!) I will take that step even if I'm the *only* one.

It's really that simple for me.

megawealth is a curse! you become acutely aware of the needs you have that cannot be satisfied through material means AND you are socially ill-positioned to be in a place where you can experience authentic human connection because everyone around you has every incentive to lie to you!
it is *wild* how a primary effect of unspendable wealth can be making someone incomprehensibly thin-skinned

Now the @nytimes.com has picked up on this story!

Although I do think it’s unfair to call someone with a degree in climate science “self-made” …

Educators: this game is an excellent teaching tool. I use it my climate solutions class at Vassar College, & students come away with a deeper, more intuitive understanding of the interconnected challenges that technology, economics and politics pose to the task of decarbonizing the grid.

When you say 'Trump crowd' -his backers are all Ivy League+ grads, which makes it even more like the 1930's. This is war from one set of hyper-elites on everyone. It's important to explain that and focus on how moribund institutions can be brought back to civic life.

We really need to stop suggesting, either implicitly or explicitly, that we can decarbonise society without people making any changes. It's not only dishonest, but is sure to bake in further distrust in Gov when it turns out not to be true.
