Danes stone - This large stone stands just to the north-west of the village of Moulin, in the field where the Moulin Market used to be held in days gone by. Coles reported in 1908 that several more stones were said to have stood in the field.

The Lurgan canoe was discovered in 1901 by Patrick Coen as he worked in a Co. Galway bog that had once been a shallow lake. It is carved from a giant oak trunk and measures over 14 m long by 1 m wide. Date - Early Bronze Age. #Ireland

Alderney's enegmatic 'Nunnery', dominates Longy Bay.

It's #Roman fort hidden in plain sight. The Nunnery's fortifications are remarkably well preserved. This row of pilasters running along the south wall is complete to within a course.

The #Roman camp at Marktbreit is a castrum (Roman #legionary fortification) with a nearby canabae from the Augustan period . It is located in the municipal territory of the Lower Franconian town of Marktbreit on the left bank of the River Main.

Isca: Near the barack buildings were communal toilets, and at one end of the complex you can see the remains of a bread oven. 

You can also see remains of the fortress walls, a gate and corner turret, cookhouses, and latrine drains.

Mynydd-y-fforest Ystadowen
A sub-circular enclosure, c.60m in diameter, set on a S-facing slope and defined by a bank and ditch, counterscarped on the N and NE. A rectangular enclosure lies immediately to the NE.

This Iron Age hill fort was constructed around 400BC and was used for around 300 years. Cissbury is a univallate fort, that is a hilltop enclosure with a single rampart accompanied by a ditch and a low counterscarp bank.

Maen Y Bardd Burial Chamber stands high in the hills above the Conwy valley in #Wales. Maen y Bardd translates as “The Bard’s Stone” & legend has it that those brave enough to spend a night inside the chamber wake either as a poet or a madman!

St. Lythans burial chamber - 6000BC. Excavations in 2012 discovered that the original burial mound was 12m wide and 30m long. It is similar to nearby Tinkinswood and many others across #Wales and southwest England. 📸 My own

Bronze Hand of Sabazius - here is an example of one that would be attached to a wooden pole for religious ceremonies and processions. The hand includes magic symbols. It was a mysterious cult, popular in #ancient #Greece and #Rome.

The #Roman Wine Pitcher Burial Chamber features this drinking vessel in a small alcove over the #tomb.

Discovered during the establishment of the extensive Pécs cellar system in the 18th C and its full recovery was carried out by Ferenc Fülep in 1964. #Archaeology
