Today I’ve gotta sit down and note a script today because I’ve literally done everything else in my to do list for the past 2 weeks. Which is how I use dread and procrastination to be productive.

The glamorous world of independent filmmaking sure involves a lot of me eating soup at my desk.

Soup is to food what radio is to telecommunications, and what trains are to transportation.

Fellow Canadians : Let us please do everything in our power not to elect this absolute dipshit.

The man is a career politician that has never done a day of manual labour in his fucking life and yet he hides behind idiotic slogans like this.

Boo this man at every turn. May he never know peace.

The thing about so-called generative artificial intelligence is, the intelligence isn't artificial. It's real. It's OURS. The techbros stole our intelligence (our data, our thoughts, our stories, our art) and used the software to regurgitate it and spackle it together into digital particleboard.

Kiddo is home sick in bed on this first day of spring break. Our most recent interaction:

*grumpily takes tylenol*
*chugs a bunch of water*
“Can you play all star?”
*song comes on and they roll over with the blanket over their head*

Near-tweendom is weird

Had a great time talking about AMERICAN OASIS with my pal Zach Webb from @thebaffler.com, a fellow Southwesterner (albeit the Arizona variety) who shares my desire to see the region shake its addiction to the growth-at-all-costs delusion.

The Southwest Syndrome | Zachariah Webb
Delusions of permanent growth still grip the cities of the Southwest. Kyle Paoletta’s new book looks for a cure.

This reminds me of the little nursery rhyme book I used to read me kiddo “slowly, slowly, very slowly, goes the garden snail. slowly, slowly, very slowly, up the garden rail”
I must have walked by this fence hundreds of times but today I noticed that the posts are crowned with little snail sculptures of varying sizes and poses.

I like that every 2-3 years there’s a major news event that causes Mark Zuckerberg to sit down in increasingly bad outfits and somberly talk to the camera saying the company is going to change everything for the worse from the last time they changed everything for the worse

Same with scripts and film edits🫠
Fun fact: writers don't 'finish' books, we just eventually stop editing before we spiral into madness.

I unabashedly love Christmas, but not in a super flashy inflatable decorations way. I love cooking and hosting and finding perfect gifts for people and having a wide variety of holiday music. This Spotify playlist I made is maybe my crowning achievement open.spotify.com/playlist/710...

This is probably bite me later but, Miranda July is an author and filmmaker. If she wanted the book to be a movie that’s what she would have done. Also, who has the guts to adapt her work while she’s still a living breathing filmmaker www.indiewire.com/news/breakin...

I feel like I’ve seen less of these in recent years (they were everywhere in the 00s) and I just don’t get them. It’s fine to not like something but what do you get out of dragging a creative work that people worked hard on through the mud? Shout about what you love and let the rest go.
Reminder that "Worst of the Year" lists are awful and if you make one you're a garbage person who should go create something instead of shitting on people.
