In Arcana, you don't just pick your character's race. You have the option to create their specific lineage, with all the physical, magical, and social aspects that come with it!

Play as a human if you wish. If not, play as whatever you find fascinating or empowering!

In Arcana, magic is a skill you truly develop in-game. You'll start with basic spell components and expand further on what interests you. As you experiment and explore, your spellbook grows into something totally unique to your character's journey!

The second piece of commissioned artwork for the Arcana TTRPG was completed this week!

Thank you to Amalia Rendon for the gorgeous piece featured in this thread, illustrating that Arcana puts players into the cloak of a wizard in a much deeper way than just about any RPG.

As a student of the arcane, your journey from novice to archmage is written in the pages of your own spellbook. With each experiment and expedition, it evolves—becoming more than a record of your studies, but a chronicle of your unique path through the mysteries of the universe. #TableTopRPG #RPG

In the world of Arcana, magic begins with understanding. While studying the essence of a mysterious geode, many questions arise: How does it duplicate the lights of a candle flame, why does it seem to burn slower as a result? Each aspect becomes a tool in your growing repertoire of spells.

Overjoyed to reveal our first piece of commissioned artwork for the Arcana TTRPG!

Thank you to Piyang Flores for working with us to create what I think is an ideal example of what a player's spellbook/journal could look like!

The spells you craft have no limit but than your imagination.

You can craft spells to conjure creatures or imbue yourself with their aspects, write simple charms to never again lose your wallet or keys, you can even materialize opulent boudoirs in which to gleefully recline, to bask in your power!

Arcana takes the creativity of the players to an entirely new level. Worldbuilding happens automagically on both sides of the GM screen in this game, because the players decide how magic, and its very essence works.

Imagination is the only true limit in this game and this hobby.

Now I've been working on Arcana for about 2 years, and though I never actually planned to release it, I'm too excited to share it with the people I've been running the game for all these years.

We had a blast. To create a game experience from scratch? It was liberating on every level.

About a decade later, I asked myself "What would I do if I wanted to make a game?"
March 2, 2025 at 2:04 AM
I ran the game with a chess board for a battle map and dice or guitar picks as miniatures. I "did my own research" and put together a campaign—blissfully ignorant of the monstrosity of rules and lore cobbled from disparate aspects of various editions anything else that looked like a TTRPG.

This is my player appreciation thread:

I've been making up fun stuff to do with friends for as long as I can remember, but I didn't start with TTRPGs until I squeezed into my friend's D&D 3.5 campaign in 2014.
