Back on Twitter, I started to post about some somewhat obscure films I love. At first it was just to pass the time until I started doing it every Sunday and realized it should've been a thread. So I'm just gonna continue that here but fix that one mistake.
Finally someone who gets it.

IF YOUR METROIDVANIA BRINGS ME TO WHERE IM SUPPOSED TO USE THE POWER UP, THEN IT'S NOT A METROIDVANIA. THE MOMENTS OF DOUBT IN-BETWEEN ARE THE FUCKING POINT OF IT ALL.
game design (derogatory): "okay so here after you get this power-up we'll neatly loop the player back to exactly where they have to use it to progress :)"

game design (complimentary): ari gibson and william pellen looking at the high halls fight, going "thats a lot of waves," then adding 3 more

In 1989, French newspaper Libération asked 700+ filmmakers from around to answer just one question: "Why do you film?", the answers they received varied from several pages long to just a few words, here's some of them.

Predict my ass, everything "foretold" in MGS2 was already present in older cyberpunk media. And some of them aren't even that obscure (Serial Experiements Lain, Neuromancer).

Stop stroking this hack's ego, especially when it concerns a bad game he made 20+ years ago.
Hideo Kojima : "For MGS2 I didn't predict AI, [...] but rather a future I didn't desire; unfortunately we are heading there"

Really not fighting back against the Zionist accusations huh Neil.

CD Projeckt in 2020: Damn, we ruined all our goodwill in a matter of days. Well, at least everyone will learn from our mistakes.

Here's a preview for next year's TGA;

Geoff: Game of the Year goes to....Control 2. Congratulations to Remedy, thank you very much for saving the hack-and-slash genre from those disgusting j**s.

Alright, time to watch a 3 hour film and then see the announcements.

Hopefully something on the level of Okami 2 happens again but I doubt it.

People attacking Prime 4 by comparing it to Prime 3 makes me want to give it an earnest shot. Because fuck the haters, Corruption is great. Dare I say, it's better than Echoes.

"Oh my God, Netflix is gonna bump up the price"

Lol, imagine paying for Netflix. But also, if they do, then I predict the following;

If you had told me at the beginning of the year that a Kirby Air Rider game is going to compel me to get a Switch 2 more than fucking Metroid Prime 4, I would have pissed in your direction. But here we are.

Someone put forth the idea that Prime 4 will have friendly fire and you could maybe kill the marines and now I desperately hope that's the reality we're living in.

You're right Quentin, Ringo Lam should sue your ass.

Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino has said The Hunger Games "ripped off" Battle Royale, and expressed surprise that the Japanese writer of the cult classic original didn’t sue The Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins. https://bit.ly/44fDUkf

Something I just learned recently is that this is also Michel Gondry's favorite film (The director of ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND).

In fact, he illustrated this beautiful poster for it when it had its 1990 re-release in France. His name is signed on the left next to the anchor.

Y'all know what you've gotta do.

(This is Canadian price, so don't give me that "still too expensive" crap)

(Just ignore the "trying to get laid with students part")

Anything Rob Zombie has made, especially THE DEVIL'S REJECTS. Shit is demented but I kinda love it.

Also James Cameron's TRUE LIES is unapologetically racist and sexist. It's also batshit, so I like it.
So because my friend Austin is having a bad day because of some holier than thou assholes who can't seem to understand film and art is subjective, I want to know what some of your favorite problematic movies are. I'm talking about movies that if you were asked on a first date what movies you love...

I’ve had long convos with critic friends of all stripes about how ashamed other male filmmakers should be that almost objectively one of the most empathetic and sensitive male directors on the subject of the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of women is *Roman Polanski*

If I was a Kojima fan, I'd say this was breaking expectations and is actually a metanarrative commentary on player's expectation from a Metroid game.

But because I have functioning braincells, I'll call it what it is; Dogshit.

(Yes, dumping on Kojima is how I cope)

I don't trust anyone who doesn't admit having at some time in his life enjoyed trashy American movies; I don't trust any of the tastes of people who were born with such good taste that they didn't need to find their way through trash. (1969)

I'm getting Other M 2 vibes from Prime 4 right now.

This year, I dipped my toe into Tokusatsu. Loved so much esthetically but couldn't stand the repetitive format.

Then I got more into Wuxia films and discovered everything I loved in Tokusatsu but now without the padding.

Moral of the story; once again (and forever after), Cinema >>>>>>>>>>>>>> TV.
