capitalism is for chumps, retrogaming is for champs
I finished the Discworld videogame and it wasn't good.

Moon logic puzzles, softlocks, technical issues like lockups and save file limits.

The voice acting and the writing is great and superior to many games today but that's not the gameplay and that's important to me.

Half of these are usless.

To continue discussion of how people don't realize that japan made their favorite "american" videogames...

A lot of your favorite cartoons from the 80s and 90s are actually anime.

Especially from TMS Entertainment since they did Ducktales, Gargoyles, Batman The Animates Series and many more.

I really don't like the design of DOS style platformers.

This means usually gigantic square blocks of space filled with stuff, traps and enemies on a time limit.

You figure out where to go or fuck off, and they brought this on Claymates for SNES, but not only that, ugh.

Now this is ridiculous: Asterix Search for Dogmatix for Game Boy Color starts you with one continue and to gain more you have to do a billion minigames, plus it saves your progress only when completing a full world.

Basically destroy the pick up and play nature of the Game Boy, what a mistake.

It's incredible that for now the game to get if you like Pokémon is still Dragon Quest Monsters 2 on Game Boy Color.

I honestly haven't played anything non-Pokémon that has it beat for now.

Then there's interesting but miguided ideas that went on to sell to a very small niche of really grind happy people like the Metal Max series i talked about the other day.

Another notable entry is Lagrange Point, battles withing battles and your mana drains also with normal attacks...no, just no.

The problem is that most of them are generic, they try to clone Dragon Quest, that in turn cloned Ultima 3: Exodus, while having none of the nuanced gameplay systems.

Forget about charming characters or the class system.

This was a problem also on the Famicom full of generic Dragon Quest clones.

Back on streaming tomorrow, in the mean time you have no idea how many RPGs i have vetted for the Super Nintendo because they just don't understand that there's a limit to grinding.

Enter Metal Max, a series where you gotta level up you, the tank and money for ammo...brutal.

No, thanks. (got it?)

For the people that love absurdist stuff like Courage the Cowardly Dog, i suggest you play Boogerman on Mega Drive.

It's a concept that could've gone horribly wrong but it's pretty silly instead.

The first Kyrandia looked so good, the amount of details in this screen alone is staggering.

I can't stop looking.

When people ask me why i loved gaming in the 90s, let's just pick Core Design and see what they were able to release in 1992 and 1993.

It's a studio with 30 to 40 employess in those two years and yet the output can't be matched today companies with 30 studios, not even with this variety of genres.

Alien Logic is a fun DOS era Action RPG.

Most of it's systems work together without hiccups and almost everything as an in-game explanation.

Original and interesting i found it certainly a cut above most representatives of the genre, at least on DOS.

My favorite Street Fighter is Alpha 2, especially the Saturn Gold version.

I usually don't like fighting games without a meaty single player, but not only i like this game, i love it.

It's just on another level compared to others from the 90s.

So gaming is getting crazy expensive to the point that during even the entertainment column of italian news organizations start talking about it.

But here the solution, get red of your "fear of missing out" play that backlog, play old games.

And wait when they're dirt cheap.

Oh and the mountain from the top looked like this:
October 5, 2025 at 5:47 AM
As always, a message and remember: never go up a mountain alone.
October 5, 2025 at 5:41 AM
A the top weather started going worse and worse, there is no mountain hut in the vicinity of this peak so you have to bring your launch up there with you.

Incredibly it started raining 10 minutes after we climbed back down and were driving in the car.
October 5, 2025 at 5:41 AM
There is a super dangerous stop on the shortest trail to the top.

If you don't manage to climb a little bit of rock, like 5 meters, you can end up in a ditch like the second photo on both sides.

There's just a little strip of land after it too for another few meters.
October 5, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Mountain Man did an extra, with constantly changing weather (as the mountains do) i went up to a place called Monte Forato.

You can guess with it's called like that even if you don't understand italian.
October 5, 2025 at 5:41 AM
I don't understand what was going on in the minds of the people that made the SNES version of the Taz-Mania game.

Something like: "what if road rash was a manic fever dream?"

Top Hunter is the start of SNK just flexing their technical capabilities.

1994, watch out! SNK is about to have 7 years of greatness before going bankrupt...for the first time.

James Pond 2 is a massive improvement over the first title.

It still suffers from sonichities, but at least this time they've put some level design to accomodate for the speed.
September 16, 2025 at 5:10 AM
Just still completely baffled to the fact the golden era of The Legend of Mystical Ninja games was on Super Nintendo and we got 1 of the 5 games they released on the console.

I played 3 for now but i can tell you that they get better and more creative until now, just look for yourself.

The view from this mountain hut while we waited for our food after our intense journey.

A scary hour but we made it.
