Another fucked up aspect of the H-1B visa is the H-4 dependent visa. A spouse can accompany the H-1B sponsored worker, but has to be totally financially dependent and can't work.
Silicon Valley loves H-1B visas because they let them hire highly qualified foreign engineers for peanuts.
American engineers can quit and find a better job, but H-1B holders? The transfer process is so messy most companies won’t even consider them.
