In 1659, the the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted a law that declared that Christmas was sacrilege and exchanging of gifts, greetings, and wearing fine clothing on that day was Satanic. Anyone caught celebrating was fined 5 shillings. (About 5 days wages.)

The "War on Christmas" was an inside job.

James gunn/marvel core movies lack anything but the barest waft of genuine artistic impact ir emotion. Every major moment is undercut by a fourth wall break or a "wow that actually just happened😎" moment. Superman will be shit, leave no impact on the human spirit, but make a ton of money.

Hearing Germany is on brink of collapse, americans have elected laissez faire tarrif heavy politicians, and tent cities are all over the place

@stephenking.bsky.social 's "It" has one of the most accurate depictions of the terrors of growing up fat that I've ever read. The isolation and never ending harassment, random beatings, etc. It's oddly refreshing to see that pain be recognized and not just mocked.

Get Low is truly art in highest form. Have you ever seen human creation move the spirit to such heights (or lows)?

Civility is a right the elites earn when they govern justly.

There are countless historic tales of how law was enacted to stop personal violence. Germanics, greeks, semitic tribes, on and on. But when law so evidently fails to even hear the complaints of the people, personal violence will return. This is sad, but deeply human.

really does seem like the GOP and corporate America have not adequately accounted for the very real prospect of America descending into a Years of Lead-type situation, on the back of their efforts to impoverish/indebt everyone who isn’t already ultra-wealthy

this was naive of them

If any respect for law remains in the hollow corpses which make up scotus, gorsuch is the mose difficult to predict in when he applies it. May his flesh enliven with red blood and not the ooze of politics.
I don't think the Supreme Court is to be trusted on trans issues and they are predisposed to ruling against trans rights, but I don't think you can walk away from those arguments with any solid predictions when Gorsuch said nothing and Barrett didn't telegraph a whole lot.

This is genuinely why i struggle to care about scotus. Alito and company are genuinely hacks. Why deep dive to examine a pile of shit
Justice Alito: your argument is based on x right

Solicitor General Prelogar: no our argument is based on y

Justice Alito: well your argument is based on x, why should we be looking to x, x is very different from what's happening is here

extremely unserious

Honestly surprised yoon backed down. He had the military. But hey. A win is a win

I mean... Not like a congress really means anything to a dictatorship. That unanimous vote has already been ignored by the military.
fondly recalling how after Jan 6 Congress went home for a long weekend, didn't start impeachment proceedings for a week, which then took another month
It took only ~2.5 hrs for the National Assembly to gather a majority of members (190 of 300) and generate a unanimous vote (190 of 190) to vote down the emergency martial law. The law says the president "shall comply" with parliament's vote, but doesn't specify a time frame.

Amen
I care only insofar there are a ton of other people in desperate need of pardons and Biden should hurry up and get to signing those too

(I'll have more to say on this later today)
Getting close to blocking anyone in my mentions arguing that the Biden pardon of his son is a big deal. It's just not.

I absolutely do not care.

You cannot make me.

Do not try.
