years ago, I did some art for Hollywood Records, which was part of Disney - when the AD kept ignoring my invoices, I started repeatedly faxing (that's how long ago this was) a cartoon of myself with Mickey Mouse in a choke hold, holding a gun to his head. They Fed-Exed the check the next day.
Which reminds me of my favorite aggrieved freelancer story of all time: In the late '90s, when a writer set up a tent in the lobby of Bob Guccione's Gear magazine and refused to leave until his long overdue invoice was paid. It worked! Hero!

yeah i’ll be honest i don’t think i can fully grasp the sheer scale of the net positive being here has had on me. i already know the lasting effects will be monumental. some of the friends i’ve made have—in no uncertain terms—changed the course of my life and made me a better person at my very core
I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

today was much better than yesterday. i wrote a couple of the pages i need to add to Billy, got a page of pencils done, and then got an email wrapping up Baby’s First Pitch, so THAT’S going out this week 🥺

ok so last year they released the gravity falls soundtrack on vinyl and it had SICK art but USD conversion + shipping was BONKERS so I didn't get it
BUT THEN
they released the lofi version on vinyl which is the one I actually listen to ANYWAY and it was AFFORDABLE and it CAME TODAY LOOK HOW BEAUT

My art advice will always be "get a reference image and just do your best" because these awkward angles aren't easy to draw 🖤

my ringtone is “jake from adventure time laughs at his own joke” and one time i forgot my phone in the radio station vehicle when my new coworker dropped me off after a shift, so i called it, without realizing that she would just suddenly hear john dimaggio laughing in some unknown corner of the car
sometimes i forgot to turn my alarms to silent and the default can only be described as 'scary clown music that gets increasingly louder at abrupt speeds'

i’m SO glad i was a professional failure in my 20s lmfao i know for a fact i wouldn’t have been able to handle success. i can barely handle my version of it NOW, and i have things like “a loving partner and child” and “fulfilling friendships” to ground me in what’s important.
I was talking with @aplante.com this morning about the idea of Overnight Success and how much it fucks you up. Enviable as some aspects are, at least slogging your way up it’s easier on the ol’ impostor syndrome if you can look back at all the shit that got you here.
