I've never seen another more "Portlandia Moment" than tonight when a man with a mustache was talking to his friend about Pakistan and the Bush Administration, all while a Khruangbin opener plays poetic afro-jazz music.

Feeling like Fight Club, but instead of getting addicted to recovery meetings to cry, it's volunteering at my local food bank for the dopamine rush of giving back and organizing canned goods.

My daughter's final essay for her Monsters In America film class is to write a paper about a specific cinematic monster and its historical context. She chose The Blob (1988), using her textbook & Carrow Narby's essay "Indescribable" from the book It Came From The Closet

My daughter's decided that someday she wants a Muppet funeral. Her ashes are to be placed inside a human-like Muppet in her likeness (eyes closed, mouth open), the Muppet theme will play as her casket opens, & the eulogy will be given by a Muppet priest with a Kermit-like voice.

Been following along with my daughter's remote college film classes (which has really been a blast), and now the end of the semester is approaching. Just found out today that the professor is pro-AI 😭😟

I sadly can't make it to this, so I'm listening to the LK commentary track for Clue while I gaze out my window.
So this is cool: American Cinematheque has invited us to participate in their annual Friends of the Fest series, with movies being presented by film podcasters. We're hosting a 40th anniversary screening of CLUE, screening a single-ending print for the first time since 1985: #filmsky 📽️

My lesbian daughter and I, while handwashing her car, came up with something that should exist: A black masc lesbian owned car washing/detailing business.

Hurts my soul that my local arthouse's 6th film series is the first one that probably won't happen, and it's for Michael-fucking-Mann.

It's going to be 2003 again? I just started re-listening to My Chemical Romance, so I guess I'm off to a good start. Also, I'm starting antidepressants for the first time this week. I'm doing great, actually! Why do you ask??

The Beach Boys were the first cassette I ever bought. I saw it on a supermarket shelf as a kid in Hawaii and it changed my life. They were the soundtrack of my childhood, later the songs of first love and deep, dark loneliness. RIP Brian Wilson, you were one of the greats.

Sly Stone and Brian Wilson in the same week, man. Two genuine visionaries who gave us so much, suffered so much, and both retreated from the outside world for long stretches of time, burrowing inside themselves, as their music became raw materials for entire genres and sub-genres and sub-sub-genres.

Oregon lawmakers have passed a bill that would block private-equity firms from controlling healthcare practices.

The resolution would create the nation’s strictest ban on corporate influence in medicine.

It now heads to Governor Tina Kotek’s desk.
