Holy cow! I think I found my top read of the year. I'm about 1/3 of the way through 'Alebrijes' by Donna Barba Higuera (no spoilers plz!) and am already blown away. I'm thoroughly engrossed, but also can't stop thinking about how Higuera did what she did. Who else loves it?

I will be forever marked by the experience of reading 'Where the Red Fern Grows' in 5th grade class during silent reading time. You try not being scarred by being *that* kid who is bawling while reading in a bean bag, surrounded by a bunch of 5th and 6th graders.
