So I sorta thought that risk-sharing in MA might have the sauce since they have a lot more options to restrict networks and just manage care more tightly. Guess not.

The scientist running the study, Dr. Vivian Ho of Rice University, is brilliant and has done a lot of great work on unfair billing practices (and gotten some crazy blowback for it).

I respect Arena for trying something different (especially in today's climate where funding is so uncertain), and private industry brings a lot to the table when it comes to biomedical innovation. But I'm just very skeptical that anything can really replace government for funding basic science.

Also, two years is not a long time! Kind of seems like it was doomed from the start if there was the possibility of getting the rugged pulled out after two bad years.

The thought process beyond FDA's approach to de Novo devices and increasingly all devices is that we can use preliminary evidence to get stuff to market, then sort out the rest with post-market data. But that's way harder if not impossible for devices used outside traditional health care settings.
