Cost breakdown:

🧾 ~$500 total (costume, envelope, stamps, letter print)
📬 1,000 letters printed

Inside the letter:

- What they've got this letter, and what Fernand is
- Why current helpdesk software drives people mad
- How we’re building something calm, fast & focused
- A link with 3 free months free for OMR attendees

No jargon, no funnel. Just honesty.

The key wasn’t just the costume. It was the envelope.

It had weight, a stamp, and a name.

People held it, looked at it, and opened it like it might be something important. There’s a little ceremony in opening an envelope.

That moment bought a few seconds of attention.

Why a postman?

Because that’s our whole brand. Fernand is all about delivering messages between companies and customers.

I just took the metaphor to the max: vintage jacket, flat cap, real envelopes: the whole vibe.

I didn't want to yell over the noise with another startup booth.

Instead leaned into the weird: I wrote a physical letter, stamped it, and spent the whole day in full 1960s French postman costume handing it out in front of the venue.

I’m the founder of getfernand.com, a modern customer support tool for SaaS teams.

We're building the next Zendesk, with opinionated design, B2B focus, and a nice Superhuman-like shared inbox experience.

Just calm, fast, beautiful software.

In this case, I was initially thinking that they expected a native-first experience, when it fact they could even barely tell what the hell their customer wrote to them. All it took to fix was to uncheck a checkbox.

I'm trying to refrain more and more from extrapolating on what our customers say and rather make sure that I understand their issue accurately.
