The awkward truth is that fandom and "female-dominated" media spaces are actually quite conservative and violently push back against all attempts to interrogate that deep-seated conservatism, while citing the simple fact of being a female-dominated space as a "defense" or "proof" of innate feminism.
'Why can't women in fantasy be nicer and kinder? Let women be feminine! Return to tradition!' - a surprising number of women who would otherwise profess to be feminists, lol.
