Great news this World Anteater Day (November 19th)!

A few years ago, a stretch of road in Brazil was dubbed the “Highway of Death”. One of the most dangerous roads in South America for drivers, it also claimed countless animal lives

Bad news in from South Georgia - the population of breeding female elephant seals has nearly halved following a bird flu outbreak on the sub-Antarctic island.

Here's what we know so far...

Encountering this godwit always makes me think about the changes we have both seen in the 29 years since we first met, especially the planting of non-native trees all over Iceland wadertales.wordpress.com/2022/06/18/i...
Longevity record!
Last night, @washwader.bsky.social recaught this Black-tailed Godwit, first caught and ringed 29 years ago.
The metal ring was wearing thin (and was replaced) but the bird is still going strong.

I just happened to be watching baby Fossas at Chester Zoo last weekend, so this article is quite opportune and intriguing.

I grew up just south of Harlech in North Wales, and I still (just about) remember the first time I heard the story of Cantre’r Gwaelod way back in primary school. So much more than just the story to be fascinated by.

If I still worked in school, I’d wear my #Red67 badges & give the #sixseven trend a different narrative. The kids’d listen & be horrified. I mean, I’d keep it light, because=kids having fun. But man, then I’d tell them UK red listed birds are now at 73. @yolobirder.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social

A few months back I walked away from a huge project because the client suddenly asked me to use #AI to generate imagery that was way above the budget allocated. It was a very difficult decision to make, I cannot afford to throw away projects like that. 1/3

My wife was thrilled to be the first to spot a Bittern walking out in the open, in front of the hide, just 20m away, yesterday at RSPB Button Mere. And, of course, I didn’t have a camera with me. Also 6 Marsh Harriers all in the air at the same time, and a family of 6 Whoopers too. #birds

As a county bird recorder I can honestly say that the best and easiest way for you to make your birding count, is to upload them to either eBird or BirdTrack. Doing so contributes directly to #ornithology and bird #conservation at both local and national levels.
